Letter from the President
Posted: August 1, 2011
Dear Members:
The Air Force Historical Foundation set its sights high for 2011 activity, and we are delivering on the promise of advancing our mission in preserving and promoting the history of the U.S. Air Force, its predecessors, and other military air services.
In June, the Foundation presented its inaugural James H. “Jimmy” Doolittle Award to the U.S. Air Force’s 4th Fighter Wing, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina. This new recognition acknowledges a unit that has displayed bravery, determination, discipline and superior management of joint operations in multiple conflicts, and our first Doolittle award ceremony – held at the Air Force Memorial in Arlington, Virginia – was a highly successful event.
We’re now gearing up for our biennial symposium, scheduled for November 17-18 at the Andrews AFB’s Air Force new Jacob Smart Conference Center. This year’s theme is “Air Power and Global Operations: 9/11 and Beyond,”andis to feature panels of historians, analysts and leaders who have directed air operations during this period. The symposium will be capped by our annual awards presentation, which includes the fifth annual Gen. Carl “Tooey” Spaatz Award and our fifth annual Maj. Gen. I.B. Holley Award, both of which recognize individuals who have contributed greatly to the history of the Air Force.
Our website also is keeping pace with the organization’s stepped-up activity level, providing news stories, features and information about upcoming events – including those to be jointly sponsored with the Air Force’s Historical Studies Office.
To continue this success, we look forward to the feedback and support of our individual and industry members.
Sincerely,
Dale Meyerrose
Maj. Gen. USAF (Retired)
